about

A Defiant Life was inspired by the music and artistry of John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy and Jimmy Garrison. These are just a few examples of the many fearless and powerful artists in jazz who created a lineage of uncompromising art. Coltrane was special in how he could use a simple structure to say so much and this piece reflects that idea. It’s a wide open structure with clear melodic cells.
